| ON NOW! Winter 2010 Collector's Fine Art Exhibition Showing now: June, July & August 2010 If you’re visiting the Sunshine Coast this Winter to catch some warmth & sunshine, we encourage you to drop into our Buderim gallery to enjoy an impressive range of collectable new paintings that have recently arrived. On show are originals by proven performers of the investment art market, including new works by David Boyd, Robert Dickerson, Margaret Olley, Tim Storrier, Jason Benjamin, Pro Hart, Hugh Sawrey, Norman Lindsay & more! Highlights: • New Hugh Sawrey oil paintings, including a large & humourous bar room scene of the Kogan Creek Hotel & a selection of smaller oils by Sawrey of race meetings, stockmen & country weddings. Smaller works by Sawrey are harder to come by. They are very popular with collectors because their prices are more affordable than Sawrey's larger works. • Also available & highly recommended for investment are new pastels by the famous figurative painter Robert Dickerson. This selection of pastels date from early periods of Dickerson's career and, as such, are high quality. • Many of our clients are looking for affordable works by David Boyd so we are pleased to advise that three new vibrant oils by David Boyd, featuring cherubic angels & children’s faces have just come into the gallery. |

WHAT'S NEW? Two RARE offerings by Norman Lindsay • Bronze Sculpture with a fascinating history: We are pleased to offer Lindsay collector's a special sculpture that rarely surfaces for sale, the "Sphinx Radiator Cap" bronze sculpture. The Sphinx is a common image in Lindsay’s work & was often used as an embossed emblem by publishers for his exquisite illustrated books. The sphinx is the symbol of the National Trust Norman Lindsay Gallery & Museum at his estate, "Springwood" in the Blue Mountains in NSW. A fascinating history surrounds the creation of this bronze. In 1926 Lindsay designed a Sphinx as a mascot for his wife Rose’s Vauxhall car. Initially it was cast by Norman’s talented friend, the sculptor Rayner Hoff (1894-1937). Interestingly, Hoff is famous not only for his beautiful sculptures but also for his Lion design emblem for Holden cars. When Rayner first cast the Sphinx he used lead that had been melted down from old paint tubes. However, this proved too heavy & so it was re-cast in another metal & then silvered. Rose Lindsay told the story of the collaboration between Lindsay & Hoff, with Lindsay’s desire to make the piece more dramatic: “Norman designed a mascot for my car, a sphinx, and Rayner Hoff made it to be cast in metal & silvered. Norman would keep on interfering, suggesting more chest, & more of a curve here & there, so that the finished result is Norman’s work down to the chest & Rayner’s below”. In 1988, Australia’s Bicentennial year, the National Trust (NSW) decided to cast & reproduce the original Sphinx Radiator Cap as a limited edition of 203 bronzes, with only 200 being available for sale. The sculpture was very popular, sold rapidly & now very rarely becomes available for sale. The original Sphinx from Rose’s car is on view at the Norman Lindsay Gallery & Museum. • Rare Norman Lindsay print from the 1930's: Just arrived is a lovely 1930's colour print "Benevolence" (shown here). This rare print is available in limited numbers, rarely surfaces for sale & is much sought after by Lindsay collectors who often request us to search for this print - DON'T DELAY - call us now us if interested - Tel: 07-5450 1722. SELECTED ARRIVALS: New paintings worth a mention • Beautiful gorge scene by Michael Challen Michael Challen has just completed a stunning landscape of Ormiston Gorge in Central Austalia (shown opposite) wiht all the hallmarks of Challen's much admired style - amazing realism & detail and a faultless depiction of light & water. Challen's gorge paintings are very popular, so don't hestitate if you're tempted! Also by Challen is a striking oil of waves crashing into Double Island Point at sunset. What is amazing about this painting is how it shows Challen's ability to realistically depict the power of the ocean with churning waves & the vapour & spray from the sea as it hits the cliffs at Double Island Point near Noosa's coastline. • Darryl Trott's gorgeous watercolour "Orchids" We are pleased to offer a beautiful watercolour of "Orchids" (shown opposite) by one of the world's most eminent floral painters, the late Darryl Trott (1942-2004). Darryl Trott, born in Austalia is known worldwide for his incredibly detailed & vibrant art of flowers with his watercolours in the collections of Queen Beattrice of Holland, the former US First Lady & the late Lady Bird Johnston. Trott's successful career was tragically cut short in 2004 with his untimely death. His paintings have now become very collectable. It is well worth seeinf Darryl's "Orchids" "in situ" as the freshness of Trott's colour & attention to detail are truly masterful. The "Orchids" watercolour is in mint condition, tastefully framed & VERY WELL PRICED - a bargain price for works of this size by this important painter. Larger images of any paintings are available to email on request
